Nasur, who confesses to be an NRM supporter, said he would instead campaign for others. He was presiding over the district Muslim teachers day celebrations at Kasana UMEA Primary School.

Labour union protests ban

KAMPALA - The labour union has protested the ministry’s refusal of some unions to register. In a letter addressed to the Solicitor General, the union’s secretary general, Irene Kaboole, said this violated their rights.

Kyambogo forms tribunal

KAMPALA - Kyambogo University has set up a tribunal comprising seven officials to resolve internal disputes among staff. The tribunal will address disputes using the university’s existing organs instead of relying on court procedures, university officials said. The officials said the initiative will help create a harmonious working relationship among staff and minimise costs and time spent on court procedures.

New districts get computers

KAMPALA - Twenty five newly-created districts have received computers worth sh60m from the population secretariat. The computers will support the development of a population information system, build capacity for population, data management, planning and reporting. “While planning for the population, districts should have up-to-date data to review and inform policy makers on the needs of the population,” the acting director, Charles Zirarema, said.

Indians boost sciences

KAMPALA - Third deputy prime minister Kirunda Kivejinja last week met a delegation from the Indian CMR group of institutions to bolster sciences with the view of enhancing development. Kivejinja met the delegation at the ministry’s board room where he emphasised the importance of sciences to national development. He said it was in line with the national development plan.

Ugandan dies in Kenya bus

NAIVASHA - Kenyan police on Sunday confirmed the death of one Ugandan after a Nairobi-bound bus was involved in an accident with a truck on the Naivasha-Nakuru highway.Eleven people perished. Naivasha deputy police chief Ekakoro Emaidi said they could not disclose the identity of the deceased until the next of kin was informed.
