UPCOMING middle distance runner Annet Negesa and sprinter Ali Ngaimoko will warm up for the Pan African meet in Khartoum, when they take part in the fourth national trials at Namboole on Saturday. The Khartoum event is due in a fortnight’s time.

Negesa, who has dominated the 800m and 1500m races at all the trials she has competed in, was selected by the technical committee for the middle distance, while Ngaimoko will compete in the 200m and 400m events.

“The technical committee looked at their performances and chances of getting international competitions. To these ones, their chances were limited and that is why we gave them this opportunity,” explained organising committee’s Faustin Kiwa yesterday.

Ever since leading the junior women to the World Cross Country bronze medal, Negesa has dwarfed all her local competitors.

Kiwa however said that the two have to prove their readiness by putting up a good race during Saturday’s trials.

“We have other names on card. What we want is to be represented by the best,” he explained.

The trials will be another opportunity for sprinters Justin Bayigga, Mildred Gamba and Emily Nanziri to clash again.
