THE Police community affairs department is to establish village crime prevention panels to revive security committees countrywide. The disclosure was made by the commissioner of Police in charge of community affairs, Asuman Mugenyi, during a workshop on mobilisation of sub-county security committees held last week at Kibaale district headquarters.

He said the panels will be trained to carry out civic education by community liaison officers. “We want the people to take part in crime prevention. That is why this should start at village level.”

The village crime prevention committees will comprise the LC1 chairperson, the youth and religious leaders. Mugenyi said the sub-county security committees will constitute the LC3 chairperson, the Gombolola internal security officer, the sub-county chief and the officer in charge of the Police in the area.
