Trees are symbols of human life

TREES are universal symbols reflecting the phase of human life; the embryo is represented by the seed, youth envisaged in terms of ‘blossoming’ and ‘branching out’ and maturity symbolised in the production of fruit or new seed (that is a family of our own).

Many cultures, philosophies and religious traditions have adopted the tree as a symbol of the belief that human beings are the connecting point of celestial and terrestrial forces; is envisaged as the trunk of the tree with branches stretching to the heavens and roots penetrating the ground.
A single tree featuring prominently in a dream is therefore likely to symbolise the individual, his or her family (as reflected in the expression ‘a family tree’) or the human ‘family’ and its various ‘branches’.
A single Oak, or any tree associated with strength or having a phallic shape, will represent a specific male. A fragrant flowering fruit or ornamental tree can be symbolic of a specific female.
If the tree is ancient and awe-inspiring, it could be a sign of the symbolic awakening of the dreamer’s higher self and sense of union with the universal creative force. On another level, wandering among trees in a forest can represent a curiosity about the nature of the unconscious.
Wood is another symbol of the unconscious, it being derived from a living, growing source which remains impenetrable to the conscious mindâ€
