Candida returns
Dear Sir,
My doctor says I am suffering from candida. I have tried vaginal capsules, tablets and tubes but it still comes back after about a month. I have read of other infections like pubic lice. Could this be the problem? What can I do?
Barbara

Dear Barbara,
Candida is a fungus that is found on our skins. It only causes symptoms when it overgrows. This can happen from time to time but usually it responds to treatment very quickly although it can return.

Some conditions cause it to grow frequently. These include pregnancy, taking too many antibiotics, HIV and uncontrolled diabetes. If these conditions are there, they need to be controlled also. If the candida is still recurrent, you can use drugs to prevent it. Candida does not cause infertility.
Pubic lice are like head lice except that they stay in our pubic hair. They cause itching. They can be sexually transmitted. Pubic lice can be controlled with good hygiene and drugs. Check with your doctor or a pharmacist.
