FINANCE Minister, Syda Bumba, has refuted allegations that foreign investors are favoured at the expense of their local counterparts.

There have been allegations from sections of the private sector that foreign investors are pampered with incentives which are not extended to their local counterparts.

“Foreign investors are not favoured. Instead, it is the locals who are not aware of the available opportunities,” Bumba said.

The minister made the remarks while presiding over a one-day sensitisation workshop in Luweero, which was organised by the Uganda Investment Authority, for small and medium enterprise owners in Luweero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola districts.

Bumba said the Government had created an enabling environment for all investors by availing infrastructure, power and tax incentives.

She added that the newly created East African Community would widen the markets beyond national boundaries, while the Government rural electrification programme would take power to all corners of the country.
