The unpleasant smells irritate
For years I have had a very unpleasant smell in my private parts. I have tried to smear creams and insert tablets to no avail.
Two years ago, I got severe pain in the lower abdomen when passing urine. Twice, I got treatment. The third time, it was worse with pain on my right side. I was told it was a UTI. But that pain comes back. My boyfriend did not go for the check up. Maybe he re-infected me?
Michelle

Dear Michelle,
Unpleasant smells from the vagina may be from an infection. The most common ones are bacterial vaginosis and trichs, which can be cured. They may come back, needing more treatment, or a change of drugs.
A UTI is a urinary tract infection and can be cured. It is an infection of organs which make and store urine. Most UTIs in women are not sexually transmitted. That means your boyfriend will most likely not be giving you UTI.
Unfortunately, they can come back, needing more treatment. Please see a doctor.

My periods are irregular!
I am 29 and my periods have been irregular for 15 years now. I miss for about four or six months consecutively. I saw a doctor and had a scan which was normal. What is the problem?
Monic

Dear Monic,
Irregular periods are common at the beginning of puberty and near menopause. At this time, they are normal. After puberty, a woman’s cycle should get more stable, though she may miss a period or two once in a while.
Some people have irregular periods because they fail to ovulate, hence affecting fertility. Your doctor or gynaecologist may put you temporarily on contraceptive pills for your cycle to become regular. There are also drugs that cause the release of eggs (ovulation) in case you want to get pregnant.
