The disbursement of funds for the second phase of the Northern Uganda Social Action (NUSAF ll) will start at the end of this month, Dr. Robert Limlim, the director, has said.

The project will cover 55 districts in the West Nile, Acholi, Lango, Teso, Karamoja, Elgon, Bukedi and Bunyoro sub-regions. According to Limlim, from this month until December, each of the 55 districts will get funds for an average of 40 community sub-projects.

However, he said, only districts that have completed training community facilitators and submitted their proposals to the Office of the Prime Minister would be considered.

“Other districts may get funds for more projects, depending on their efficiency in generating project proposals,” Limlim said. Speaking at a press conference at Gulu Churchill Courts Hotel recently, Limlim noted that as part of the activities to kick-start NUSAF II, over 2,800 community facilitators had been trained to assist communities generate sub-projects.

“The facilitators are given special skills in participatory rural appraisal methodologies to be able to identify priority areas and map out resources in the community,” Limlim said.

He urged the beneficiaries to ensure accountability while implementing the projects. “Once the first instalement is released, we shall expect proper accountability from the beneficiaries before giving them more money,” he said.
