ALL job applicants strive to present the best of themselves during interviews. But what do employers look for in a worker? Note that although companies differ in services or products, their employee expectations are the same.

While most bosses will have very specific expectations of their employees, depending on the job, James Makumbi, a human resource consultant, advises that to win your employer’s approval, you need to have the following attributes:

Professionalism. A good employee always maintains a professional demeanor, especially when representing the company. This means treating customers and co-workers with respect and courtesy at all time.
Timeliness. Bosses expect their employees to be punctual. Lateness or calling in sick frequently are not the habits of a good worker.
Innovative. Being a boss’ robot is a passport to failure. Bosses expect serious workers who have the nerve to put new ideas on the table.
Be a solution not a problem. With the tight competition in the job market, firms want to recruit people who will be assets not liabilities to them.
Providing a solution that could save the organisation from loss is what employers expect from workers.
Maturity. Bosses prefer employees who focus their attention on their work, not personal matters during work hours.
Flexibility. Even the well-run businesses must deal with the occasional surprise or crisis.
