Why are my Boer goats losing weight?

LOSS of weight or unthriftness in goats may occur as a result of a disease which might be interfering with feed intake. The loss might also have something to do with the quantity or quality of the feed given to the animal.

LOSS of weight or unthriftness in goats may occur as a result of a disease which might be interfering with feed intake. The loss might also have something to do with the quantity or quality of the feed given to the animal.

The latter is generally called malnutrition.
Malnutrition is a state where an animal is provided with inadequate feed. This is common in zero grazing animals or in cases of overgrazing, old age and diseases of the mouth.

Qualitative malnutrition is due to feeds lacking some key elements like sodium, zinc, copper, calcium and vitamin D. Loss of weight can also be caused by energy deficiency in highly productive animals that may fail to replace lost weight after delivery.
