The People’s Progressive Party chairman, Jaberi Bidandi Ssali, has asked the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure that political parties account for the funds they are using in the ongoing campaigns. Speaking at a two-day workshop for political party leaders at Colline Hotel Mukono on Tuesday, Bidandi said enforcing accountability of the funds will ensure a level ground for all players. “The NRM has used billions of shillings to organise its party activities. The EC should find out whether that money is from the party treasury or the Government,†he said.
DP warns MP Erias Lukwago
The Democratic Party (DP) has warned Kampala Central MP Erias Lukwago against supporting the Inter-Party Cooperation flag-bearer, Dr. Kizza Besigye, in next year’s presidential elections, saying he would lose his membership if he did so. DP deputy secretary general Vincent Mayanja said on Monday that DP’s new leadership was strict on defiant members. “Lukwago has a right to disagree with DP’s decisions, but he should not disobey the party’s rules and regulations,†Mayanja said.
