St. Francis hospital, Nyenga in Buikwe district has been hit by a water shortage after unscrupulous people vandalised the distribution pipes.

Dr. Joachim Zziwa, the medical superintendent, said the pipes were stolen by scrap metal dealers. “All our pipes have been uprooted. We have been forced to set up water tanks to tap rain water,” Zziwa said.

He added that the signposts of the hospital, seminary and the nursing school, had also been stolen. Zziwa made the remarks while receiving a consignment of items, including Mama kits, bedsheets, sugar, soap, milk and soya given by Stanbic Bank to mothers and children on Friday.

He also complained of inadequate manpower. “I am 63 years old and my colleague is 61. We are supposed to be retired but the youth think this is a remote place,” Zziwa said.
