GULU district council has approved the creation of eight more sub-counties. This will bring to 23 the number of sub-counties in the district.

The proposed sub-counties will be submitted to the ministry of local government to become operational in the next financial year.

The councillors also approved the creation of several new parishes in the district during a recent council meeting chaired by the speaker, Martin Ojara Mapenduzi.

The councillors also want Omoro and Aswa counties split into two to improve service delivery.

According to the district executive committee report, many parts of the sub-counties are not effectively being monitored by political and technical teams because they are far from sub-county headquarters.

A report by the district vice-chairman, McMot Kitara, said ensuring effective service delivery to people in the remote parts of the district was difficult.
