THE Electoral Commission has cleared four candidates to contest for the Kamuli LC5 chairmanship.

Speaking to the press at his offices on Saturday, the district registrar, Samuel Kiyingi, said three independent candidates and one from the NRM camp were cleared at the close of the nominations on Friday.

“All the four fulfilled the necessary requirements but we are yet to announce the official kick-off of their campaigns,” Kiyingi said.

He warned supporters against election violence.

Cleared were former Kamuli town clerk Kaloli Dhizaala, Valley View College School director Charles Mutyabule Naluswa and Bulopa Secondary Schoool headmaster Samuel Wotakyaala, all independent candidates. Ahmed Kawoya Kawugu Mugaino will represent the NRM.

Kawugu, who has twice lost the seat over questionable academic papers, became the NRM flag-bearer after defeating the LC5 chairman, Stephen Mubiru, in the primaries.
