UGANDA Cranes produced a spirited display to complete their two-game friendly tour in the Middle East unbeaten after battling to a goalless draw against Bahrain yesterday.

In fact, had Tony Odur, Steven Bengo, Sula Matovu or Patrick Edema efficiently utilised their chances, Cranes could have snatched a deserved victory against their hosts in-front of a near 35,000 capacity crowd at the Bahrain National Stadium.

Although Bahrain had their chances, coach Bobby Williamson’s side enjoyed plenty of possession, with Bahrain seemingly content with watching the visitors knock the ball around as they presented a master-class in possession.

Williamson, who was also delighted with his side’s defensive fortitude in keeping a clean sheet, had the luxury of making five changes, with Musa Doka, Odur, Habib Kavuma, Bengo and Noah Ssemakula replacing Simeon Masaba, Edema, Matovu and Manko Kaweesa respectively.

“The first batch of 10 players that travels to Saudi Arabia on Sunday returns tomorrow (today) and the rest on Friday,” Cranes media officer Fred Katende stated.

Umony recalled

In a related development, South Africa-based striker Brian Umony has been recalled to the Cranes for next week’s friendly against Saudi Arabia.

Umony was overlooked for Uganda’s 1-1 Nations Cup draw against Kenya last month.

Ibrahim Sekagya, Nestroy Kizito and David Obua have been excluded for the game.
