THE Government wants a speedy conclusion of the Economic Partnerships Agreement (EPA), Nelson Gagawala, the trade minister, has said.
Gagawala was speaking at celebrations to mark the Belgian National Day and the birthday of King Albert II of Belgium at the Belgian ambassador’s residence in Kampala.
“Uganda attaches a lot of importance to regional integration. We believe that favourable trade, not aid, will enable sustainable economic development for Africa. In this regard, we are anxious to see that the impediment to early conclusion of the economic partnership agreement are speedily dealt with,†he said.
The EPA has long been denounced by fair trade activists and eminent Africans as the worst draft treaty on trade in recent history.
