KAVC lifted their sixth title in a decade to confirm their position as powerhouses when they defeated Nkumba 3-1 in the national volleyball league finals at the Lugogo Indoor stadium.

KAVC, who went unbeaten in the regular season, defeated Ndejje 2-1 in the playoff semi-finals and concluded on a high note when they outclassed the Nkumba men. “Our basis of every decision today was winning the title and we utilized the fact that we have experienced players who have mental strength to win,” said a happy KAVC Coach, Dick Muhwezi.

Coach Tonny Lakony explained that, “We tried our best but KAVC was the better team since they have experienced players and they capitalized on our mistakes.”

In the ladies category, the Nkumba ladies defended their league title when they outclassed UCU Lady Doves 3-2 in a highly contested game that went to the fifth set. “We played hard in the first two sets that we won so by the third and fourth set we had spent most of our energy but we decided to play strong in the fifth because it was going to determine the winner,” said an excited Nkumba Captain, Jackie Mary Achieng.

Nkumba who lost twice in the regular season to KAVC and UCU qualified as third on the table standings and defeated KAVC 2-1 in the best-of-three playoff series while UCU defeated Ndejje 2-1 to make it to the finals.

“The players used a lot of energy in trying to level the sets from 2-0 down to 2-2 so by the decisive set they were very tired but we gave the game our very best,” said UCU Coach Tom Emau.
