The Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament, Cecilia Ogwal, has refuted reports that remnants of Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) had infiltrated the district.
Ogwal said LRA remnants were not regrouping in Amwoma sub-county to disrupt the 2011 elections in Lango sub-region as claimed.
“The reports are baseless and are intended to cause unnecessary tension among the people. The security officials launched an investigation and found out that there was no security threat in Dokolo district,†Ogwal said.
Addressing a press conference at her home in Lira town on Saturday, Ogwal dismissed reports that her campaign was delayed because of fear of the insurgents who were moving in groups.
She said the rumours were being spread by those who did not have support in next year’s general elections.
