THE minister of lands and natural resources in the Acholi cultural institution, James Esau Okema, has died.

Okema, 42, succumbed to pneumonia and cancer at Nsambya Hospital on Christmas Eve.

He is survived by a wife, Faith Okema, and three daughters.

Speaking at his funeral service on Tuesday at Koro sub-county in Gulu district, the bishop of Northern Uganda Diocese, Johnson Gakumba, advised Ugandans to invest in renewing their relationship with God, instead of honouring small gods and drinking alcohol.

“We should use our time on earth to strengthen ourselves spiritually,” he said.

He prayed for the bereaved family and urged them to remain strong.

The paramount chief of Acholi, Rwot David Onen Acana II, said the late Okema stood out for peace in Acholi and was a pillar of harmony.
