THE sixth round of the National Rally Championship (NRC) series organised by Uganda Motor Club (UMC) is in balance following the loss of dfcu Bank sponsorship.
dfcu that has sponsored the rally since 2000 last week terminated the deal due to what they called internal bank changes.
UMC chairman Fred Mugerwa was uncertain of the rally’s future.
“It is almost impossible to run a rally without a sponsor. FMU might penalise us for failure to organise the event but there is little we can do,” a devastated Mugerwa said.
UMC will be fined sh1m fine if they do not organise the rally, a development that will reduce the 2003 events to seven rounds.
NRC holder Charlie Lubega is defending champion of the rally.
dfcu are the third firm in two years to withdraw from sponsoring NRC.
Shell and Hima Cement last year pulled out of the Shell Helix and Royal Birthday rallies.
UMOSPOC called off the Shell rally while MOSAC is yet to find another sponsor.
