SIR— on February 24 the Monitor ran an article about Major Ndema's plans to screen and throw out HIV-positive students from the UPDF Kadogo School in Mbarara. It is absurd that while Ugandans think that a substantial achievement has been made in the fight against stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS, the commandant of the Kadogo School in Mbarara, should conceive and reveal his plans to execute an exercise that is not only so stigmatising but also against human rights. with all due respect, Maj Ndema, please note the following:
-You are not God
- HIV-positive people or even those with AIDS do not necessarily die before those who are HIV-negative.
-Not all who are infected with HIV, especially kadogos, (children) get it through sexual relations. Some are born with it and some get it from several other ways.
-You seriously should seek to be educated and sensitised on issues concerning HIV/AIDS before executing your plan.
-I hope president Museveni restrains your illegal plan.
