Rwenzori Beverages, producers of Rwenzori mineral water became the first company to offer a sponsorship package to Uganda Cranes as the team prepares for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda.
The beverage company took a quick step to respond to health general duties state minister captain Mike Mukula’s appeal to supply the players with their products.
The company on Wednesday released the first consignment of 50 cartons of mineral water.
The consignment, which included two fridges of 80-litre capacity and Rwenzori water T-shirts, was handed over to the team manager, Sam Kabugo, at the company’s head office in Nakawa industrial area.
The company also agreed to supply 50 more cartons of mineral water every week for the next one year.
The Cranes are expected to travel with the fridges wherever they go for matches starting with the Nations Cup qualifier against Rwanda March 29.
Rwenzori Beverages managing director Mahmood Somani who delivered the first package assured the minister of continued support on condition that the beneficiaries account for and use their products properly.
“We are excited about the Cranes and found it necessary to contribute to their efforts to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations. As long as the funding is accounted for and the products not wasted we have no problem,” Somani said.
Captain Mukula thanked the company for their response adding that it is a gesture that corporate bodies are regaining trust in Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) after the recent accusations of financial mismanagement.
