Why Has Chess Been Monopolised By Kampala?

SIR — I wish to remind the Uganda Chess Federation (UCF) that they ought to promote the chess game throughout Uganda and not only in Kampala.

SIR — I wish to remind the Uganda Chess Federation (UCF) that they ought to promote the chess game throughout Uganda and not only in Kampala. There are many fans and players of the game in other regions with talent but who only lack motivation and other necessities to make them chess stars.
Chess is an intellectual game highly recommended for every one but unfortunately, unlike other games like football and basketball, UCF is not doing enough to promote the only board game. Apart from schools and institutions in Kampala, the game is unheard of elsewhere! I suggest UCF opens up centres in every district where chess can be taught and practised and tournaments can be held, especially in schools. UCF should also approach the ministry of Education and sports to help promote the game, including other promotional methods that have been successful in Kampala to encourage more people all over the country to play it. short of this, the name “Uganda chess federation should be changed, probably to “Kampala Chess Federation”. That way it would be more representative and honest.
