THE Speaker of Parliament, Edward Ssekandi, has dissolved the second session of the 7th Parliament.

The House will be in recess until early next month it returns to receive the budget from finance minister Gerald Ssendaula.

“Under Article 95 of the Constitution, after making the necessary consultation with the President I proclaim the House prorogued,” Ssekandi said.

Deputy Speaker Rebecca Kadaga who dissolved the House on Friday on behalf of Ssekandi, said there were two vacant seats in Parliament, one following the death of the information minister Basoga Nsadhu (Busiki).

The other followed the nullification of the election of Michael Mumia (Bubulo East) by the High Court.

Kadaga said elections to fill the vacant seats would soon be held.

Ssekandi said he had recieved requests by some MPs to continue with sessional committee work for a few more days, but he declined saying there was a backlog of work.
