Matrix breaks records
Not since Die Another Day have movie tickets for a particular film sold out the whole opening weekend through. Well, It happened again last week. Although folks at Cineplex Cinema are reluctant to give figures, Matrix Reloaded, which had a world Premiere on Wednesday last week grossed more than the mega Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets throughout its entire running time at the Cinema, in less than a week! Rory Tyson from South Africa’s Nu Metro, the distributors for Cineplex Cinema says the Ugandan attendance figures for Matrix Reloaded in the opening week beat those of particular cinema houses throughout South Africa and Kenya. Cineplex marketing manager Sidney Mukasa attributes the big response to the growing “movie culture” in Uganda.

Fans mob Chameleone
You should have attended the Coca Cola Reactivation of their new brand at the Nile Hotel Gardens, Sunday. Chameleone was besieged by a bunch of star-struck youngsters as he left the grounds in his black open-roof Celica. He interacted spiritedly and signed autographs. The corporate function, which also doubled as a concert of sorts, featured local stars Ragga Dee, Bobi Wine, Bena and Viboyo of No Neda fame among other young artistes.

TV Africa styles up
Is it Big Brother Africa or are they just styling up? For whatever reason it is, TV Africa have turned the heat up. In Naomi Agaba, TVA marketing executive’s own words: “Our 9:00-10:00pm slot Monday to Friday on South and East has become very strong, with the introduction of such programmes as Friends, I’ll Fly Away and Gabriel’s Fire. In July, we introduce a brand new series called The Net into our Monday slot (we will run National Geographic documentaries in this slot be fore the launch).
“We have created special time-slots for our dramas Profiler and Homicide that will be aired at 10:30pm Wednesdays and Fridays respectively. Our local programming slot has moved from 9:00-10:00pm to 7:00-8:00pm, filled by our daily soaps Loving and Generations.
“On weekends, ER graces our screen on Saturdays at 9:00pm to beef up our weekend offering. In addition to the sports offering, on Saturdays we will have IAAF athletics, COSAFA football and one-off events like the Laureus World Sports Awards. And as usual, our Sundays sports slots will be filled with Samba Football, Brazilian style. Starting this period we will be bringing you a new News programme called This Week, which is a wrap-up of international news and events for the week, courtesy of BBC.”
