RUBAGA South MP John Ken Lukyamuzi (right) on Sunday fled from a rally he had called at Nateete Police grounds in Rubaga Division Kampala, when he saw a team of Military Police pass by, apparently on a different mission.

Lukyamuzi, clad in a cream suit, abandoned other MPs and Justice Forum leader Kibirige Mayanja and fled with part of the crowd and hid in a nearby yam garden. He suspected the Military Police had come to arrest him.

The Military policemen were chasing Joseph Lubega, a driver of taxi UAE 458T which was involved in an accident with an army vehicle on Masaka road.

They ironically caught up with him a few metres from the public rally. The embarrassed Lukyamuzi re-appeared after 30 minutes, with his cream suit heavily caked in mud. He said experience had taught him to become wary of security at such gatherings and would not take chances.

“As a leader, I have to lead even in running for dear life. But today, I was going to mobilise security for my guests,” a jocular Lukyamuzi told the crowd that was slowly regrouping after the fiasco.

Present was Mbarara Municipality MP Winnie Byanyima, who told Ugandans not to be coerced into endorsing the third term.

“I am back to work with other Ugandans to block a constitutional change that will give Museveni another term,” she said amid cheers.

Aswa county MP Reagan Okumu, Jacob Oulanyah (Omoro County) Ssebuliba Mutumba (Kawempe South) and Nsubuga Nsambu (Makindye west) also attended.

Lukyamuzi told the gathering that he was going to spearhead a motion demanding President Museveni to present a comprehensive programme on how he would effect peace talks with LRA leader Joseph Kony.
