KILAK MP Michael Ocula Nyeko yesterday admitted in Parliament that he had recorded a Police statement over a defilement charge leveled against him.
In a statement of personal explanation in the House, Nyeko said the allegations were a fabrication by his political enemies. “I know it is a fabrication by my political detractors. The truth will be established. The story was absolutely not true. I have never defiled or even had a love affair with the said girl,” Nyeko told legislators.

Sembabule in land wrangles

THE LC5 chairperson for Sembabule Herman Ssentongo has decried the increasing level of land evictions in the district saying it violates human rights.
“Apparently, our district is faced with the problem of tenants being evicted from their settlements by rich buyers who turn land into bigger farms. However, the way they do it is very alarming because they have less regard to rights and freedoms of tenants” he told The New Vision yesterday.

Ugandans irk Kirya

PROFESSOR George Kirya, former envoy to the UK, has said he is disappointed by some Ugandans who go abroad to decampaign Uganda.
Kirya, however, expressed happiness with Uganda’s improved image abroad. He was speaking at a party in honour of government appointees from Pallisa district organised by the Pallisa Community in Kampala and held at Country Inn, Pallisa.

MPs mourn Kenya’s VP

PARLIAMENT yesterday observed a moment of silence in memory of the Kenyan Vice-President Michael Kijana Wamalwa who died on Saturday in London.
“You may have noted that in less than eight months, our Kenya colleagues have lost the fifth MP. We need to join them in thoughts and prayers to the Almighty God so as to bear the loss of a colleague and a Vice President,” Speaker Edward Ssekandi told MPs yesterday.
