KAMPALA — Court has issued a warrant of arrest against a former branch manager of the Tropical African Bank and his son for allegedly defrauding the bank of over sh500m. Alli Hajji Abdi, 52, is said to be on the run for allegedly conniving with his son, Hussein Alli, to defraud the bank of sh569,288,140.

MASAKA — The Police are holding a UPDF soldier attached to Karama Army Barracks in Mubende in connection with robbery of 17 cows. Lt. James Barigye, alias Rukundo, allegedly robbed the cows from Kafeero’s kraal at Kasambya near Ssembabule. He allegedly kept them in another kraal at Kyazanga in Bukoto, Masaka district.

MOROTO — State minister Omwony Ojwok has advised politicians to keep what he called electoral politics out of the Governments’ programmes and matters of national security. Ojwok was speaking at the launch of the second phase of European Union Funded Karamoja Project Implementation Unit (KPIU) in the town over the weekend.

KAMPALA — The venue for the 2005 Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting shall be decided by heads of government at their next 2003 meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, the foreign ministry said yesterday. Press reports said on Friday that Uganda would host the 2005 Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting to be chaired by her Majesty the Queen of England.

KAMPALA — The National Medical Stores (NMS) general manager, Robert Rutaagi, has denied involvement in any financial impropriety. Rutaagi said the state-owned corporation duly answered queries which the Attorney General (AG), John Muwanga, recently raised. He was reacting to Wednesday’s spotlight story in The New Vision on alleged financial scam in NMS.
Cops hold 25 aliens
KAMPALA — The Police yesterday arrested 25 foreigners in Old Kampala near the Inter Aid offices in a dawn operation that started at 4.a.m. Moses Semakula, the Community Liaison Officer, said most of those arrested were from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Somalia.

KAMPALA — The Police at Kabalagala police Station use exhibits to furnish their offices, the Officer in Charge of the station, Timothy Halango, has said. Halango was recently receiving Makindye East MP Michael Mabikke. The legislator recently visited the station to access the living and working conditions of Police officers.
