Seguku Hill takes secondary school trophy

SSEGUKU hill College lifted this year’s Secondary School Music, Dance and Drama (MDD) trophy from Bweranyangi girls after a stiff Competition which brought together 22 secondary schools representing 22 districts.

SSEGUKU hill College lifted this year’s Secondary School Music, Dance and Drama (MDD) trophy from Bweranyangi girls after a stiff Competition which brought together 22 secondary schools representing 22 districts.

Bweranyangi lost to Sseguku by two points after having the best performance in the drama which portrayed the day’s theme, which was “HIV/AIDS prevention and the youth”.

Alfred Kyaka, the senior education officer, secondary while handing over the trophy to the winners, cautioned secondary schools which failed to turn up for the festivals without any excuse.

A total of 56 schools were expected to turn up for this years festivals.

“Headteachers who failed to turn up are discouraging government effort to fight the AIDS scourge which he is on the increase in the youth,” he said.

Sseguku lifted the trophy with 668 points and Bweranyangi 666 points and Lubiri secondary were the second runs up with 664 difference of two points.

Earlier while addressing headteachers during the opening of the events, Robinson Nsumba Lyazi, the Assistant Commissioner Comprehensive Secondary schools, said it is a national education policy to hold annual MDD festivals by all schools because MDD is a communication media which breaks down all barriers.

Nsumba said that on the school curriculum MDD is one of the many approaches used in fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS.

The secondary school MDD festival is an annual event that helps learners develop other skills.
