TWENTY-TWO internally displaced children at Orussi Catholic parish in Nebbi district received relief aid worth sh5m from Unicef recently, Frank Mugabi reports. The district probation and welfare officer, Peter Okiria, handed over the relief items that included mattresses, cups, plates, basins and jerricans. Orussi parish priest Fr. Vincent Orombi said a big number of the children had developed skin diseases due to poor living conditions. He said a Catholic sister, who had gone to look for her mother in one of the camps in Gulu, returned with the children in March last year. Orombi said most of the children were from Kitgum. The acting regional manager for Unicef, Grace Ekudu, said the children had requested not to be taken back. “We respect their request not to be returned to their war-ravaged districts,†Ekudu said. Ends
