It’s as well Nakawa, Naguru tenants leave to allow new development

SIR— What a fantastic decision made to redevelop these the Nakawa and Naguru housing estates into modern satellite towns. These are prime area that need serious structures.

SIR— What a fantastic decision made to redevelop these the Nakawa and Naguru housing estates into modern satellite towns. These are prime area that need serious structures. Let KCC publish the artistic impressions (how the areas will look like after construction). These plots should not be sold to the sitting tenants. I think many Ugandans would not like to see such places redevelop like Namungo where the houses are built in all the available spaces without serious planning. Many Ugandans
will want to see these places redevelop into ultramodern structures to last for centuries.

The project should not be politicised. The politicians will soon begin poking in their noses in the matter when it does not concern them. Imagine the tenants who have been living in these squalid quarters for decades without building their personal houses. Where on earth will they get money to pay and build on these high value plots. There is no easy way to development, the tenant have to accept the order of the landlord and go. They should accept the reality and look for alternative accommodation anywhere in Uganda

SIR— Should the tenants of Nakawa/Naguru leave or stay? For sentimental and humane reasons, they should have been allowed to stay. But in reality, for the sake of common sense in economic sense and health they should leave. Kampala is growing and the old buildings have changed. These estates are no longer safe.
