Miria Matembe, the former state minister for ethics and integrity, caused prolonged laughter when she thanked God for giving her a big mouth.

Matembe said this while opening a two-day workshop organised by Uganda National Economics Students Association at Makerere University on November 29.

The theme of the workshop was, “The role of the youth in fighting corruption, promotion of ethics and building integrity in Uganda”

“I thank God for the big mouth He gave me. When I die and He asks me what I did with the gift He gave me, I will say, my Lord, I used it to speak for the women, the youth, the children, the disabled and above all, to preach ethics and integrity,” said Matembe.

She added, “I will also say that I spoke against corruption among public officials. And the money I liberated from the selfish was used to construct roads, hospitals and schools.”

Amidst applause and foot stamping, she urged students and other Ugandans to stand behind her.

“Bannange, when I am before God making these claims, He will ask whom I changed. I will then point you out as the people I helped change. Be my witnesses in heaven,” she pleaded.
