THE First Deputy Prime Minister and minister for disaster preparedness, Lt. Gen. Moses Ali, has warned the Muslim community against politicising Amin’s death.

“Many Muslims have turned the death of the Idi Amin political. We should stop this habit and strive to strengthen unity among ourselves,” Ali said.

He was receiving relief aid for the internally displaced persons (IDP’s) in the north at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council headquarters on Friday.

He said he had never denied Amin as his president as many Muslims thought. “I have also never denied Amin being my president. But there are Muslims who are intimidating me on the grounds of Amin. We should stop confusing issues in the political arena,” he added.

The Muslim Volunteers association donated clothes and beddings to the the IDPs.
He commended the association for supplementing the Government efforts in restoring peace in the north and east.

“The support rendered by this independent group of Muslims is associated with supplementing government’s sympathy to those suffering in the war zone areas. If the public can spread love and sympathy with those we do not see and know, then we are expressing the intentions of helping those suffering,” he said.

The Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Mubajje, said during his visit to the north and southern part of Uganda, many mosques and other worshipping centres had been destroyed, which was affecting the faith of the Muslims there.

“Quantity and quality was not important while supporting the IDPs. But the spirit of sharing the suffering towards our brothers is crucial,” he said.
