The Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Matia Kasaija, has advised the people of Bunyoro not to be emotional over the recent Cabinet reshuffle.

“President Museveni has a lot for Bunyoro and I do not see a reason why people here should worry,” he said.

He was speaking at the burial of the Rev. Fr. John Bosco Bukya at Bujuni Catholic Church.

Kasaija said the appointment of Dr. Kasirivu Atwooki as a senior presidential adviser on land should be seen as a reward.

He said Kasirivu could be used to advance land issues in the region.

This followed reports that NRM members were planning to return party cards after Kasirivu was dropped as lands minister.

Kasaija advised the residents not to return their party cards since it was not the NRM party which appointed ministers.

He said: “If some one is not intelligent, how can he advise the President even going to the rank of senior presidential adviser?” Kasaija explained.

He expressed concern over reports that some people in Kisiita sub-county celebrated and slaughtered cattle after Kasirivu was dropped.

“I want to tell you that when some one is dropped from a ministry and you jubilate, then it is a big setback in the relationship between the Bafuruki and the indigenous Banyoro and such should stop,” Kasaija noted.

He said this had added an insult to tribal differences and was a recipe for conflict.

Last week, unanimous letters were dropped in Bugaingaizi county warning the Bafuruki to leave Bunyoro in two weeks otherwise bloodshed would follow.

The source of the letters is yet to be established.
