Swimming body opts for youth

UGANDA Swimming Federation (USF) has entered a team largely dominated by teenagers for the 13th FINA World Championships due July 17-August 2.

UGANDA Swimming Federation (USF) has entered a team largely dominated by teenagers for the 13th FINA World Championships due July 17-August 2.
USF picked 13-year old Jamila Lunkuse, Olivia Infield, 14, Shariff Kakooza, 16, and experienced captain Ganzi Mugula for the event to be held in Rome, Italy.
“The selection was done according to performances at the national trials,†USF secretary Peter Mugisha said.
“We want to send a team of young swimmers to the event as we build for London 2012 summer games.â€
Explaining the choice of Mugula, the official said, “We also needed an experienced swimmer to guide the young ones at a meet of this magnitude.â€
Mugula, who last participated in the world championships in 2003, will compete in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly events.
Kakooza is entered in the 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke.
Lunkuse will take part the 50m and 100m breaststroke events while Infield will fight for honours in the 50m and 100m freestyle events.
