THE Democratic Party (DP) has dismissed allegations that it is planning to use its councillors in Rubaga Division to fail the newly-elected chairman, Peter Ssematimba, from implementing his workplan.

Addressing journalists in Kampala yesterday, DP officials said they held a meeting with their councillors on Monday and instructed them to cooperate with Ssematimba.

“Although 38 of the 45 councillors are DP, we shall not fight unprincipled wars. National interests override party interests. For purposes of development, we have accepted to work with Ssematimba,” said Kenneth Kakande, the Uganda Young Democrats president.
Kakande asked Ssematimba to arrange to sign a memorandum of understanding with DP.

DP secretary general Michael Lulume Bayiga called upon President Yoweri Museveni to emulate former Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere so that he would also be canonised.

“The President should not hail Nyerere just to please the Catholic community.

Let him walk the talk by doing the good things Nyerere did, like treating Tanzanians equally regardless of tribe, fighting corruption and refusing to use his position to amass wealth,” Bayiga said.
