President’s security chiefs can do better

EDITOR—I wish to thank President Museveni for praying with us on Martyrs Day at Namugongo on Wednesday. On our way to the shrine, we were respectfully and quickly allowed into the area by the President’s security personnel, unlike in the past.

I was however surprised when, after mass, we were barred from entering our vehicles in the public parking area, “because the President had not left the venue”! I agree our President’s personal security is very important, but I also believe that his security chiefs can do better than that. Unnecessarily inconveniencing people attracts public anger.

Besides, when it started raining, the ‘security reasons’ given earlier were unceremoniously thrown away, and we all rushed into our vehicles for shelter and journey back home! The security personnel are good but there is still a lot to improve upon.
