THE Uganda Rugby Cranes Sevens team has been drawn against world beaters Samoa in the Tusker Safari Sevens that starts in Nairobi on Saturday.

The Cranes are in Pool B togteher with Les Bleus, the French national team, who will be making their second appearance in the event, and the Chairman’s (Kenya’s clubs’ select).

Uganda will open their campaign on Saturday with a high profile clash against Samoa at 9am. They return at 1pm when they take on Les Bleus before winding up their preliminary games against Chairman’s at 3pm.
Coach Ronnie Lutakome was optimistic the team will perform well like it did in the Tangier 7’s.

“I know they are young men but I think they will play a good game,” Lutakome noted.

Hosts and holders Kenya will open the tournament against South Africa’s Western Province that replaced Namibia.

The South West Africans withdrew due to a Confederation of African Rugby/World Cup qualifier semi-final return leg against Ivory Coast. The top two teams from each pool will qualify for the quarter-finals.

The tournament director Asiko Owiro noted: “We are set for the tournament and we expect higher standards this year as we look forward to have Africa’s premier sevens circuit included on the IRB Sevens series.”

Pool A: Kenya, Japan, Western Province, Tanzania.
Pool B: Samoa, France (Le Bleus), Uganda, Chairmans
Pool C: Emergingboks, Samurai, Morocco, Shujjaa
Pool D: Zimbabwe, Bristol, Zambia, Grenoble
