NATIONAL junior champion Patrick Kawuma has been selected by Africa Chess Union to represent the continent at the World U-20 junior championship due in Norway, August.

The continent’s chess body named the Ugandan youngster after his impressive display at the All Africa championship last year in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The domestic chess body UCF believes that this is an opportunity for Uganda to get one of its top junior players exposed at one of the highest levels of international action.

Kawuma is currently undergoing training with national coach George Zirembuzi.
Meanwhile, Kampala chess club lead the league after the four round matches held over the weekend.

Led by national champion Shadrack Kantinti, the club took over as leaders after beating Jinja club 3-2 at Lugogo.

Elsewhere, Enkabi Club beat Luzira 5-0 while Mulago Pawns outwitted Multitech by the same margin. Kampala Club could stretch their lead this weekend.
