Murder has become ‘normal’!

JULY has begun with the same cycle of unanswered murder cases. A mentally ill woman was killed in Kinoni town, Masaka. Another one was cut into pieces and some of her body parts taken, according to Bukedde and The New Vision. I wonder whether murder has become a normal practice in Uganda.

How can human beings butcher fellow human beings as if they are butchering cows and goats? We all have a responsibility to stem this inhuman and criminal behaviour.

We must protect one another. Recently, the Inspector General of Police, Maj Gen Kale Kayihura was quoted to be in Kiboga investigating the ritual murder involving a young girl. Where will this end if we do not take such things seriously? Martin Luther King said: Our lives begin to end the moment we keep quiet over things that matter.”

We cannot assume that everything is okay when shedding blood has become a ‘normal’ practice. On May 3, a soldier shot dead eight people dead and when a thief is caught, the first thought is either to beat him to death or to burn him to ashes. What kind of society are we living in? It is about time this changed.
