JINJA - Four private primary schools have been closed for not meeting the minimum standards. The affected schools are Towers of Hope Christian Academy, Buyala Community, Orphans Nursery and Primary, Buyala Parents and Lutheran Orphans and Christian School. Those warned to improve before opening next term include Kabowa Progressive Academy, Light Nursery and Primary, Twin and Nursery and Trinity Primary School.
Tororo market cleaned
TORORO - Barclays Bank recently launched a hygiene campaign in Tororo town market. The market received garbage cans, wheelbarrows, brooms and spades. Earlier, the bank employees had swept the market and collected garbage. Speaking to journalists, Donald Babimpa, the coordinator of community activities, said the bank uses 1% of its earning to facilitate community activities held every four months. He said this time, emphasis was put on hygiene in the market because it is where food is bought from.
TASO urged to create jobs
IGANGA - The AIDS Support Organisation (TASO) has been urged to promote income-generation projects for people living with HIV/AIDS. The call was made by the Government Chief Whip, Daudi Migereko, while closing a two-day drama festival organised by TASO at the Iganga Technical Institute on Saturday. “I call upon TASO to reach out to HIV-positive people who are un-employed and create income generation projects or businesses for them so that they can get income, stay strong and live longer,†Migereko said.
Youth advised against sex
SOROTI - The youth have been urged to restrain from immoral activities and focus on their studies as the best insurance for their future. The youth and children’s affairs state minister, Jessica Alupo, said early sex and violence can destroy a person’s future. She was recently officiating at the opening of a one-day regional conference for teachers and student leaders from the eastern region at the Soroti Community Hall in Soroti town. Alupo advised the youth to be patriotic by discouraging premarital sex and violence in their schools and institutions of higher learning.
