UGANDA is in talks with the Chinese government to reconstruct Akii Bua stadium at a new site near the Lira airstrip.

At the same time the solicitor general has consented to the process of modernising Nakivubo stadium into a 40,000 seater venue with parking space for about 1,000 vehicles. It will also have shopping malls outside.

According to a letter by lands minister Omara Atubo, Lira Municipal Council provided part of the Lira airfield land for construction of the new stadium, after the old location was given to Lira Referral Hospital for expansion.

“What is remaining is for us to meet with the China delegation to discuss the way forward. It’s in line with the provision of a stadium in every district,” said Bakkabulindi in reaction to the Akii Bua stadium development.
