A total of 26 passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Mbarara Hospital, Mayanja Memorial and Mbarara Medical centres, on Saturday. The injured were aboard a Rukungiri-bound Savana coach that had over 60 passagers. The bus went off the road and rolled into a valley in Karemba near Ruti trading centre, on the Kabale-Mbarara highwa at 7:50 am.

The Police rushed to the scene in time to rescue the people and to guard their property. The south-western regional Police spokesperson, Polly Namaye, blamed the accident on speeding and a mechanical problem.

“We have to wait for the inspector of vehicles to give us details, but we cannot rule out speeding as it was an accident not involving any other vehicle,” Namaye said.
