KAMPALA - The youth, under their umbrella organisation, the National Youth Council, have resolved to push for a ministry, saying it is the only way to be empowered. Joseph Okwakau, the chairman, told journalists at the Mosa Court Apartments on Saturday after a youth stakeholders consultative meeting that the labour, gender and youth ministry was not relevant to them.

NHCC blocks access road

KAMPALA - A dispute has erupted between the National Housing Construction Company (NHCC) and a landlord in Kazinga zone in Kinawataka over an access road. The company recently blocked the road to Sarah Kemirembe’s residential houses through its housing estate under construction in the area. Kemirembe said she tried to contact the company to resolve the issue, in vain. NHCC chief Joseph Kitamirike said the blockage was meant to reduce theft of building materials.

‘Graft due to lack of morals’

KAMPALA - Lack of morals is the cause of rampant corruption, ethics and integrity state minister Nsaba Buturo has said. He was on Friday officiating at the closing of a two-week Inspectorate of Government staff training in public procurement at the Imperial Royal Hotel. Buturo added that corrupt officers were becoming more sophisticated to defraud the public.

KIU student held over theft

KAMPALA - 18-year-old Fatima Nakyanzi, a student of Kampala International University, has been charged with theft. The prosecution told Nakawa Magistrate’s Court that on 27 April at Ntinda Commercial Road, Nakyanzi and Medi Semakula, still on the run, stole two vehicles from a man only identified as Ayman, an Indian. Nakyanzi denied the charges.
