Dear Doctor,
I got an ailment four years ago which has failed to heal despite seeking treatment from almost every hospital. My private parts itch and I scratch myself a lot. I have developed pimples which pass out pus. When I seek treatment I seem to improve for a while but my condition recurs later. What can I do?

Dear Jack,
Genital itching and rash may be caused by STDs like genital herpes, human papilloma virus and syphilis. It can also be caused by non-sexually transmitted conditions such as candidiasis and dermatitis or allergic reactions.
Infection with the herpes simplex virus causes a blistering rash that may be infected with bacteria and thus pus like discharge. Unfortunately it is a life time infection. However the symptoms can be treated when they show up. Recurrence is not uncommon but very frequent episodes may be a sign of an immune problem. You should have a general check including your partner. Also practice safer sexual behaviours.
I have had serious backache for three years

I am 25 years old and have had backache for three years. I have tried all medications in vain. What is the problem?
Back pain may originate from the nerves, muscles and joints. It may be secondary to trauma or diseases that may result into pain and inflammation. It may also be due to poor posture while sleeping or sitting and stress at work or dysfunctional family relationships. Visit a doctor for a check up. An x-ray may be done.
