VOTERS will be finger-printed to reinforce the voter-registration process, a member of the Electoral Commission has said. Commissioner Stephen Ongaria said the purpose is to ensure nobody engages in multiple voting or forggeries.

Speaking about the commission’s major successes during their term ending November 17, Ongaria noted that they had made a lot of innovations.

“Our register is almost close to accuracy. We have a voter registration machine. We hope to have finger print technology to reinforce the voter registration process.”

He noted that the commission received good recommendation from the Government about the undertaking. He cited South Africa, Ghana and India as some of the countries where the technology is used.

On Wednesday, the appointments committee of Parliament approved the re-appointment of Ongaria, Joseph Biribwona, Jenny Okello, Tom Buruku and the commission boss, Badru Kiggundu for another seven-year term.
