VSO helps sick children
- MULAGO
A group of volunteers from Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) has boosted Mulago’s Mwanamugimu Nutrition Unit by creating an environment which helps admitted children recover fast. They have given the children toys and painted their walls with learning and other bright-coloured objects as a way of making the children’s minds active. The group included 20 volunteers from Netherlands, UK and the US.

US Children lack vitamin D
- NEW YORK
Most US kids are not getting enough vitamin D, a report in Pediatrics shows, raising their risk of weak bones and possibly, heart disease. Most children could benefit from a little more sunshine, Dr. Michal L. Melamed of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York, told Reuters Health. Giving children a multivitamin containing 400 international units (IUs) of vitamin D is a good idea too.

Birth control and weight gain
- NEW YORK
Women who quickly put on pounds after starting birth-control injections seem to be at risk of significant long-term weight gain, a new study suggests. The findings, say researchers should help clarify which women are likely to see unhealthy weight changes with the contraceptive called depot medroxyprogesterone (DMPA) — better known by the brand-name Depo Provera.

Honey is a sweet energy source
- The benefits of honey go beyond its great taste. It is a great natural source of carbohydrates which provides strength and energy to our bodies. Its natural fruit sugars are effective in instantly boosting performance and endurance; while reducing muscle and preventing fatigue during exercise. The glucose and fructose in honey are quickly absorbed, giving an immediate energy boost.

Get antioxidants from tea
- Tea contains high levels of antioxidants and prevents harming of healthy cells. Green tea has more antioxidants than black tea since black tea goes through more processing. Green and black tea can slow down the spread of prostate cancer.

The eye gym
- When working on a computer, look up every hour and for two minutes scan your eyes around the edges of objects in the room such as a clock, TV and doors. This will relieve strain caused by constantly staring close-up at a screen.
