EDITOR—I recently had the opportunity to travel across the country and I saw construction works on national roads. For long, we have been complaining about the poor roads, but now I would like to commend the works minister, Eng. John Nasasira, for the good work.
Nasasira deserves credit for lobbying for more funds for his ministry from the Government.
I had the opportunity to look at the roads under construction, Mutugga–Semutto– Kapeeka, Kawempe–Kafu, Soroti–Dokolo–Lira, Jinja–Bugiri, Kabale–Kisoro, Gayaza–Zirobwe and the much-awaited Northern Bypass and work was going on smoothly.
Rehabilitation of major highways like Kampala–Masaka, Masaka–Mbarara, Mbarara–Ntungamo and Kampala–Jinja will ease the transportation of goods and movement of people.
My only worry is that with improved roads, we might experience a high rate of accidents. It is, therefore, upon the ministry and other road agents to sensitise road-users on road safety.
