Would the meeting make Bashir change his mind?

EDITOR—In your editorial on Tuesday, you rightly argued that Sudan has one of the highest number of displaced people in the region. You said that most of this is caused by the government of Sudan headed by Omar al Bashir (sometimes indirectly through thugs sponsored by him and his government).
He has deliberately created this crisis. He has the power and the means to stop the chaos he has created. Does this man need the so-called Kampala conference to tell him that his own people are suffering because of him?
What do you envision the conference to achieve in Bashir? Conversion of heart? We should stop deceiving ourselves that conferences like the one in Kampala will ever achieve anything positive regarding these selfish and criminal minds.
If he cannot see the suffering of his own people while he is with them in the Sudan, it would be naïve to think that he will be moved by their plight in the conference in Kampala.
After all, what kind of person would advocate some kind of ‘new’ investigation into the death of tens of thousands of civilians in the Sudan?
One has to have just arrived on earth from the moon to delude oneself in such a manner! Following the logic of the editorial, one would advocate unrepentant criminals, those who are ready to justify atrocities committed against massive civilian populations, to be invited for a chat (conference) as vital entities toward a lasting solution.
A logical process would dictate that they are held accountable to answer the charges. This is what should happen with the Sudan issue. It is disappointing for The New Vision to advocate such an unreasonable point of view as you did in the Tuesday editorial.

The fact that Sudan has a very big number of refugees in the region necessitated him to participate in the conference on refugees in Kampala. But because he could not attend physically as a result of the ICC indictment it was suggested that he could have done so through teleconferencing
