ABOUT $11m (over sh20bn) worth of locally-processed products are to be exported over the next three years, according to Uganda Exporters Promotion Board (UEPB).

This is expected to be done under marketlinked, a newly expanded market-led export development programme for Ugandan agri-businesses.

The programme, a joint venture between UEPB and Traidlinks, an Irish not-for- profit firm, focuses on generating sales for products of participating companies through market research for the products.

It will encompass manufactured goods and extend into regional markets as part of Uganda’s strategy to maximise opportunities from regional integration.
Participation in the programme is by invitation.

However, companies with export ambition and potential to add value to local products, which are interested in the programme, are considered.
The expanded programme will begin in January 2010.

The first initiative, which was launched in January this year, won direct sales orders for Ugandan companies worth $3.2m.

Aston Kajara, the investment state minister, launched the programme for 2010 last week.
